Interior Design - Sharepoint

We are looking for Licensed Interior Designers (LIDs) who are interested in being members of the AAA’s Complaint Review Committee (CRC).

The CRC is a regulatory standing committee. Its purpose is to investigate complaints fairly and thoroughly against any AAA member, and determine disciplinary action in accordance with the requirements in the Architects Act and Architects Act General Regulation.

At this time, we have only one LID on the CRC. We aim to have LIDs represent the CRC on complaints involving licensed interior designers. We need at least three additional LIDs to serve on this important committee to continue to guide and support the profession of interior design in Alberta.

Currently, all members of the CRC serve as both investigators and hearing panel members. However, we are looking at streamlining the complaints process in the future by dividing the committee into two groups—investigators and hearing panel members.

  1. Investigators: While the investigation portion of the complaints process is rewarding, there is a considerable amount of work that must be completed by investigators including interviewing an investigated member, complainant, and witnesses, as well as taking detailed notes, writing reports, providing recommendations, and serving as a witness at a hearing (if the matter goes this far).
  2. Hearing panel members: A hearing panel member would be committed to attend a one-day or two-day hearing, depending on the complexity of the complaint. Volunteers for this committee will be required to participate in a one-day training session designed to prepare them for these important responsibilities. Hearing panel members are required less frequently than investigators.
More information about the position and its requirements can be found in the terms of reference. Please note that these terms of reference are currently under review.

In order to be considered for a position on the CRC, you must be a LID member in good standing. The AAA Nominating Committee will review all applications and forward their recommendations to the AAA Council for approval.

LID members interested in serving on the CRC should submit a CV and letter of interest to the AAA at by September 28, 2018.
