SAIT's Project 2001, "Building Our Future," includes 39,500 gross square metres of new construction and renovation. The two principle components of the project are the renovation of Heritage Hall, SAIT's historic and symbolic centerpiece, and the construction of a new campus centre building that accommodates teaching and academic support facilities.

The majority of program spaces are technology and academic support space. Fifty-six new computer classrooms and computer labs were constructed, together with a new library/learning resources center, academic support spaces, administration offices, a new bookstore, a food court and ancillary retail spaces.

The heart of Project 2001 is a three-storey sky lit space approximately 1,000 square metres in area. It accommodates a variety of functions including café style seating, which supports the food court area, exhibition use, and events such as convocation and celebrations. This type of space is unique to the campus and has become an important element of the campus community.
