Architects Act, General Regulation and Bylaws Course

The purpose of the Architects Act, General Regulation and Bylaws Course is to familiarize members with the major topics of the legislation that governs the activities of all Registered Architects, Licensed Interior Designers and Restricted Practitioners in Alberta. It is not meant as a replacement of a thorough reading of the Act, General Regulations and Bylaws. Rather, it is meant to function as a catalyst for a more detailed reading of this legislation. However, it is recommended that members consider a complete review to gain an overall understanding of the amended Act and General Regulation.

New members joining the AAA during the first year of the two year Professional Development (PD) reporting period are required to complete this course by June 30th of that first year of the reporting period. New members joining the AAA during the second year of the two year reporting period are required to complete the course by the end of that reporting period. The following table outlines the timeline for completion of this mandatory course:

If you are an Intern Interior Designer, you must complete the entire course as part of your licensure requirements. Intern Architects must complete the entire course prior to licensure.

You must complete each chapter’s questions and compare your answers with the answers provided within the course materials. You will be prompted to complete and submit a declaration and course fee upon conclusion of the course. Your transcript will be updated with 8 Structured learning hours once the declaration and course completion fee has been submitted.

Your answers to the chapter questions should be kept for two years in the event that your PD file is audited.


Members Living/Working outside Alberta
Members whose Primary Jurisdiction is not Alberta and who have submitted the Consent to Disclosure/Primary Jurisdiction declaration form are still required to complete the mandatory Architects Act, Regulations and Bylaws course.
