The Alberta Association of Architects has been closely monitoring the ever changing COVID-19 pandemic and remains devoted to the health and safety of our members and staff.

In order to help contain the spread of COVID-19, the AAA office at Duggan House is closed to the public. AAA staff are working from home and will strive to provide the same level of service and assistance. Service hours are 9:00am - 3:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, however communication should be conducted via email due to the remoteness of staff. See below for staff email addresses.

As the Executive Director, Barbara is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the AAA’s day-to-day operations including registration, continuing competence, complaints, communications, human resources and finance. She works closely with Council to develop and implement a strategic plan for the AAA and to ensure that the programs and services offered by the AAA reflect the priorities of Council, and that the AAA meets its obligations to regulate the professions under the Architects Act. Barbara also serves the AAA through external relations both provincially and nationally.

 

Wendy Graden

As the Director of Regulatory Affairs, Wendy provides leadership to the registration, professional development and illegal practice areas of AAA. She works closely with all operational areas of the organization and  supports various committees. As a member of the senior management team, Wendy supports the Executive Director and the members by working on various initiatives in support of the strategic plan for the AAA. 

 

Fiona Timmons

Illegal Practice Administrator

Fiona is the part-time Illegal Practice Administrator brought on board to manage the Illegal Practice portfolio. Fiona conducts research and investigates all new and existing leads from members, and the public, of instances where the illegal practice may be occurring in our province. She reports to the Director of Regulatory Affairs and works closely with the Director of Practice as well as all AAA staff to appropriately advise those suspected of illegal practice and to ensure compliance with the Architects Act.

 

Sheila Nitti

Sheila provides advanced administrative and executive support to the Executive Director, Council and Committees. Sheila’s role is essential to the efficient organization and operation of Council, enabling the realization of strategic objectives and goals. She supports the Executive Director and Council through a number of duties such as coordinating Council elections and nominations, managing schedules for the Executive Director and Council, preparing and editing correspondence, and assisting with the preparation of the Annual Report.

As a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Helen oversees the AAA’s finance and accounting duties, office building related activities and office services. She is responsible for administering HR, payroll and employee benefits, annual capital and operating budget, IT and database administration. She is also responsible for ensuring legal and regulatory compliance for all financial reporting functions. Helen leads the work of the AAA’s Office Assistant and Accounting Assistant.

 

Minn Va Wong

Minn Va is responsible for all accounts receivable and payable functions and provides support for general office operations. She also assists the Finance and Administration Manager with other accounting responsibilities as needed, including account reconciliation and preparation of the annual dues billing.

Diane helps to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the office, contributing to the successful functioning of the AAA. She is responsible for reception duties, general office operations, maintenance and administration. The Administrative Assistant also provides support to the Professional Development Coordinator and the Registration Department.

Jenine manages the Communications Team and develops and executes the AAA’s marketing and communication strategy. She plays a large role in stakeholder engagement and member relations, ensuring sustained positive relationships and high levels of satisfaction for all AAA stakeholders. With the help of the Communications Team, Jenine plans, executes and promotes first-rate events such as Banff Session.

 

Heather Pack

As a member of the Communications Team, Heather supports the mandate of the department by assisting with the planning and execution of AAA events, development of content for internal and external audiences and member outreach. She is responsible for the design and production of graphic content for AAA collateral and publications such as reports, eCommunications, brochures and other informative documents. Additionally, Heather oversees the development and maintenance of the AAA website.

As a member of the Communications Team Derek is responsible for planning and writing engaging content for the AAA eBulletin, website, and marketing materials to ensure cohesive messaging across all AAA platforms. Derek further contributes to the AAA’s strategic initiatives by managing the AAA's social media presence and is always looking for new channels to communicate the AAA's message. Derek also assists with event planning and execution.

The Registrar is mandated under the Architects Act and is designated by Council as the position responsible for receiving, reviewing, and making recommendation regarding the registration of all categories of membership. As the Registrar, Grant acts in a leadership and advisory role to manage registration, licensing, and continuing competence of AAA members. Grant also researches and advises Council on various legislative issues and manages regulatory projects that are intended to advance the professions.

 

Rashida Dhariwalla

Rashida works directly with members to support and coordinate the registration of all AAA members. To efficiently and accurately facilitate registration and licensing, she has a comprehensive understanding of the governing legislation for the profession. In this position, Rashida also ensures regulatory compliance for all member registrations and prepares documents and reports for Council.

 

Yasmin Tejpar

Yasmin works closely with the registration team and is responsible for managing all Intern and Student activities and records. She possesses a thorough knowledge of AAA policies and procedures to ensure proper compliance and registration. Some of Yasmin’s duties include intern registration, organizing ExAC examinations and facilitating log-book reviews.

Working under the Executive Director, Kathy supports the AAA’s strategic objectives by coordinating all professional development activities for the AAA. This includes administering online courses for members, developing and maintaining relationships with course providers, communicating with members regarding professional development requirements, ensuring member compliance for the program and collaborating with the Communications team to plan and execute AAA events.

Nishika plays an integral role in promoting the goals and objectives of the AAA's strategic direction set by governing Council. Nishika manages complaints, provides leadership on governing legislation, and develops policies to support the operational plan and regulatory mandate of the AAA. She also works closely with the Executive Director to identify key issues for Council deliberation and support the work of Council committees and task forces.

 

 

Randy Krebes, Architect, AAA, MRAIC

With the expert support of the Practice Advisory Committee (PAC), Randy works on behalf of the membership, public and industry stakeholders to advise on practice-related matters. Randy works closely with the Registrar and various AAA administrators, including the Executive Director, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Illegal Practices Administrator to respond to regular inquiries about matters that are based on the applicable legislation and established practice policies, standards and guidelines. Along with the PAC, he is responsible for initiating and supporting processes towards the development of or change to existing policies through the Practice Review Board and Council as required.
